Here’s a quick report on my trip to Montana this fall.

We started off on the Bighorn for a few days and this was my first time there.  What an amazing fish factory!  8000 trout per mile and there’s no small ones.  Some are just bigger than others.  Dries, nymphs, streamers…however you want to catch ‘em they’ll eat it.  My friend appropriately calls it Disneyland!  The Baetis hatches were crazy along with a continuous stream of trico spinners.  Small dries and big fish.  Most of the time everyone was too busy catching fish to take photos, but we did manage a few.  The following is a sample of what the Big Horn has to offer.

After we left the Horn, we spent several days fishing different rivers near Bozeman as well as a day in upper Paradise Valley on the Yellowstone, which is where this fish was caught.

The Madison was good and we had a slow day on the lower Jefferson, which is hit or miss.  It’s always fun to fish different water and to get away, but I’ll be honest, chrome bright steelhead were in the back of my mind the whole time.  Looking forward to winter.
