You can bet the web forums are going off about this new Lamson product! Most of it surely is just opinionated garb written by guys with waay too much time. No matter what I say or anybody else says you just cant know until you cast the rod, but when considering if the Center Axis is just a gimmicky toy, a fact you can use as a point of reference is this.

What Lamson Does. For the last decade Lamson has crushed the market with reels that are made with the best high quality aluminum, simply stylish, durable anodized parts… and fairly priced. Lamson makes reels that we can actually afford! Now, Imagine you bought a top of the line race car but instead of putting in shag carpet seats, spinning rims, and that HD touch screen back-up camera, no, no, instead what you did was get the most simplistic body style with the meanest baddest 300,000 mile motor that’ll leave all other vehicles in the dust.. that’s what Lamson does. They give you gear that is highly functional at a very affordable $$$.

So when considering the Center Axis just know Lamson does-not-make-junk, they are all about continuous improvement a point of perfection… again, for a price that we can all. So before you cringe, Center Axis is a high quality reel with a high quality medium action rod. Cast off your preconceptions – and get closer to the center of the action. We swooped these up as soon as they where available and pleased to say they are everything we hoped for.

To Further Explain This Crazy Newfangled Contraption

Graphite rods came on the scene in the early 1970s. Over the course of the next (nearly) 50 years, rod designers fine-tuned performance with advancements in materials, engineering, manufacturing, and the art that complements the science. Beautiful, well designed and precision-made, many brands today make graphite rods that defy expectations. But they can’t defy physics. No matter how great the rod, one core fact weighs it down: two-thirds of the total weight you’re casting is the reel, and that heavier object hangs far from the rod’s axis

To visualize the impact of this heavier object sitting aside the rod, exaggerate it. Imagine casting with a reel mounted 12-inches below the rod. The reel would create undesirable pendulum and twisting forces. The same forces are at work with the standard rod/reel configuration on a smaller scale. On your backcast, what you want to feel is the decelerating line load the rod, not the force required to slow the reel and hold it straight. Your hands inform the brain about timing and position so the measured energy you put into the rod happens at the right instant, at the perfect amplitude and arc to send the loop sailing. But while you’re doing this, several ounces of metal swinging around create background static, noise, when you are searching for rhythm and feedback from the rod and line.

get centered The Center Axis may be the most meaningful advancement in fly rod performance since graphite replaced fiberglass all those decades ago. By closely aligning the center mass of our Litespeed C/A reel with the center axis of our rod, we’ve de-levered the mass of the heavier object. The result will amaze you. You’ll feel the pulse of your cast like never before. Don’t take our word for it. Put the Center Axis in your hand. Casting is believing.

disassembled you can see how simple the procedure is, no screws, no tinny pieces

Center Axis reel

A non invasive drag nob, the chassis is also very easy on the eyes.

This is what locks the reel into the butt of the Axis rod. Rubber O-rings keeps things dry and helps lock things in place.

the male and female ends machined to perfection. We were a little surprised to find how easily all three prongs find their mark, locking smoothly/firmly into place. I’m sure your concerned about the reel falling off while fishing, so were we. The reel does not come apart so easily, only when pulling the reel STRAIT down and away will this system separate/unlock. Same concept as to how their reels lock firmly into place.

least important but hey, they even took the time to add a hook keeper

Thanks for reading! Happy Fishing and thanks to all our great customers , you know who you are 🙂
