Classes and Clinics
We host a variety of different classes and clinics throughout the year. We have very diverse fishing seasons out here on the Olympic Peninsula so our classes and clinics change accordingly. In wintertime most of our classes are steelhead oriented, Fall is salmon and Summer is a bit of everything.
Fishing Classes focus on where the fish will be, how to present the fly in different conditions, and general demystification of fly fishing on the Olympic Peninsula rivers.
Tying Classes are geared towards teaching skill sets and techniques that can be used widely and built upon, while producing a fly that will catch fish on our local rivers.
Open Tie Steelhead & Salmon Flies
March 25, 2017 1pm / 1300
Your invited! Open tie at Waters West Fly Shop
1pm to 6pm
Be Here For All day In-Store Discounts
Open tie means anybody can show up, bring their gear, sit down with the rest of us and tie flies. Join as skilled tiers like Daniel Cope (instagram @dbcope), the Waters West crew and a few other special guests crank out their favorite steelhead intruders, bunny leeches, tube and spey flies. Or you are invited to just stop by, watch and learn as these experts focus on the finer points and popular techniques for today's steelhead and salmon patterns. You will find professional advise and we will answer common questions such as:
- shank selection
- hooks
- how large of dumbbell eyes do you use?
- Blending dubbing
- securing intruder wire
- how to lay in hackle wings upright and straight
- composite loops
This is less an "event" and more meant to be a relaxed environment meant for us to simply get together and tie flies at the shop. Hope to see you there, Thanks!
