Spey casting is a form of fly casting that can be performed with any fly rod. When spey fishing for steelhead or salmon, two-handed rods are primarily used. They allow an angler to cover the water quickly and efficiently with tremendous line control. It's not only fun, but very effective. This full day class takes place on the water where you will learn the essential concepts of spey casting, as well as of the major casts from both sides of the river. Our Spey Casting classes are offered year-round with the exception of prime time winter steelhead fishing. For the most part, we focus on skagit lines with sink tips and light to heavy flies. However, in summer we will cover more dry line techniques for summer steelhead. We will discuss and have available the many different Skagit (and Scandi in summer) heads that make learning to spey cast so much easier than it used to be. Additional topics include reading water, run timings, fly selection and more.
We provide all necessary tackle. All you need is waders, boots and a lunch.
